Based on its GDP, North Rhine-Westphalia is the strongest state of the Federal Republic of Germany. The initiative “Digitale Wirtschaft NRW” will contribute towards further improving the framework conditions for the state’s digital economy and will help North Rhine-Westphalia to become the “number one digital state”. But digitisation is not only being driven ahead on the corporate landscape. The Wirtschafts-Service-Portal.NRW supports municipalities by allowing them to offer a number of administrative business procedures online, in implementation of the German Online Access Act [Onlinezugangsgesetz, OZG].

Business founders and entrepreneurs in North Rhine-Westphalia can now submit their business registrations to the regulatory authorities seamlessly via electronic means through the websites of the Chambers of Commerce and Industry and the “Wirtschafts-Service-Portal.NRW”.

There are plans to develop the Wirtschafts-Service-Portal.NRW into a comprehensive business service platform to enable businesses to complete more and more administrative processes from home.

The portal allows procedures to be completed through menu-based input screens with completion wizards to assist applicants. Additional support in filling out forms is provided by “Guido,” a self-learning chatbot who accumulates knowledge and passes this on to users of the portal.

As part of the Wirtschafts-Service-Portal.NRW, the Point of Single Contact offers support with regard to cross-border services and the recognition of professional qualifications. is the German government’s portal for qualified professionals from around the world. The portal, which can be browsed in a variety of different languages, offers information for those interested in moving to Germany – starting with preparations in the home country, to the actual move, to the first steps to be taken in Germany.
