In Germany, all traders and numerous liberal professions are organized in so-called chambers. These are as corporations under public law institutions of professional self-government. They represent the interests of their members and assume sovereign functions – from recruitment and supervision to offers for further education.
The chambers in North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) see themselves as:

• Independent lawyer of the market
• Customer-oriented service provider for the economy
• Contact person for members for questions of business start-up, training and corporate management
The Chamber of Industry and Commerce NRW is the regional working group of the 16 chambers of industry and commerce. It represents the interests of the economy vis-à-vis state politics, state government, administrations and associations.

The Westdeutsche Handwerkskammertag (West German Chamber of Crafts) represents the interests of the Chambers of Crafts for the benefit of crafts in NRW.
